As you walk out of Manhattan, you'll see it across the water stretching from the beautiful parks on the right to the imposing Brooklyn Navy Yard on the left. Take the first exit off of the Brooklyn Bridge Pedestrian Path and head down the stairs. You'll see a map to your left. Cross Prospect Street and continue your walk down Washington Street. Welcome to DUMBO.
DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) began this decade as an industrial warehouse land of opportunity that helped birth the latest of New York's creative explosions. Today, it has become a bustling mix of converted lofts, high-rise developments, beautiful new waterfront parks and boutique shops, all while retaining its artistic identity. SOHO-with-a-soul, if you will.
When it came time to bring that place to life online, we were tasked with building a flexible and approachable system that would allow technical novices to write content, post events and maintain an accurate database of hundreds of businesses and locations around the neighborhood. We took another team's inspired design and built WordPress into a flexible database and content manager, which made it easy to maintain all that information. Now the site offers a comprehensive view of what's happening, where it's happening and who's involved.
Next time you're in New York, make sure you visit DUMBO. And when you do, stop by our office to say, "Hi."
